Media Release 2nd August 2005.
Petfood sham

The UK Raw Meaty Bones Support and Action Group takes aim at the junk petfood sham.

We are a group of pet owners who, somewhat belatedly, discovered that a junk food diet is responsible for the suffering and ill health of a majority of British pets. Periodontal disease (malodorous gum disease) and other diet-related diseases run at epidemic proportions. At first we appealed to veterinarians for assistance. Unfortunately the vets we consulted, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Veterinary Association dismissed our concerns. They deny there is a problem and don’t want to assist. Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) toes the veterinary line.
Research shows that vets depend on the petfood industry for a steady stream of sick and bedraggled pets. Worse than that, most vets promote and sell junk pet food in their surgeries; veterinary schools are propped up by petfood company funds; and leading veterinary associations and journals are similarly contaminated. Counterfeit science underpins a massive consumer scam costing the British community £billions; costing pets their lives and with major health implications for humans too.
In December 2004 55 Members of Parliament signed Early Day Motion No.335 — Processed Pet Foods and Vets. We believe that during the course of this Parliament a full enquiry should be convened.
